Parking around the school

We have received a number of calls and emails concerning dangerous parking around the school and, in particular, in our bus bay.

There have been several reports of “near misses” involving our pupils with cars manoeuvring in out of bounds areas.

Please could I ask that you show every consideration both for our pupils and our neighbours if you are dropping off or collecting your child to/from school.

On the same subject of road safety, with the nights beginning to draw in, if you could remind your son/daughter of the need to be extra cautious when crossing the road and not to simply assume they have been seen by drivers. Many thanks.

Incident Response

We have recently reviewed and updated our Incident Response Plan which will come into force in the event that we need to evacuate, shelter or lockdown the school.

This afternoon we practised a full evacuation of the school and I must commend our pupils and students for the superb way in which they conducted themselves. The entire building was clear in less than 3 minutes and pupils and students waited calmly and respectfully whilst the checking process was completed.

Next week in assemblies, we will discuss details of how to respond to the need to shelter or lockdown and we will practise these procedures after half-term.

Although we sincerely hope never to find ourselves in such a situation, we do, of course, need to be prepared for all eventualities. I will write more about this after the break.

World Challenge

In case you have not heard, we are very excited to be offering the World Challenge expedition to Morocco once again in 2026.

This was a highly successful and popular trip in the pre-pandemic years and is being coordinated by Mrs Billington, who herself participated when she was a pupil here in Year 9! Mrs Billington reports that “it is the kind of learning that students will carry with them long into the future, learning that can only come from experiencing this amazing planet and the unique cultures that inhabit it.

It gives the students the opportunity to write their own stories, make their own mistakes, live their own adventures, learn and grow with peers, and see the world with open eyes that are focused on those around them”.

If your son/daughter is interested in knowing more about this fantastic opportunity which is not until 2026 due to the requirement to fund raise towards the cost, please do email Mrs Billington on abillington@sweynepark.com who will be happy to provide more information or send them to speak to her in the Resistant Materials department.

And Finally…..

Have a lovely weekend.

Harry Potter Warner Bros. studio.

We took 40 pupils from D&T and Drama to Warner Bros. studio.

Pupils attended a set design workshop, looking into the making of Hagrid’s hut.

We then moved on to the Studio tour, where pupils got to look at other sets, props, costumes, and sketches used for the film.

The pupils loved the day, and overall, it was a great experience.

Year 10 & 11 Netball Team

Our years 10 and 11 Netball team got off to a great start yesterday, winning their first match against Greensward.

Greensward voted Zara H as the player of the match, well done to all the girls.
