Induction Week

It has certainly been a busy week at ߴýas we welcomed our incoming Year 7 pupils. Our new pupils had the opportunity to meet their tutors and tutor groups, helping them to feel more confident and settled ahead of September.

They enjoyed a variety of taster lessons, giving them a flavour of what to expect in the new term and a chance to experience our school’s exciting learning environment.

We also welcomed some of our new staff, ahead of joining us formally in September, Ms Jeffries (Teacher of Science), Ms James ( Teacher of Maths) and Miss Dare (Teacher of DT).

Year 8 Explore Shakespeare on the Big Screen

On Tuesday, over 50 of our Year 8 pupils enjoyed an inspiring visit to the British Film Institute (BFI) in London, where they took part in interactive Shakespeare workshops.

Throughout the day, students explored iconic scenes and speeches from Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo & Juliet. They examined how different film adaptations portray the same scenes, paying close attention to the use of imagery, lighting, colour, location, and sound to shape meaning and mood.

The workshops were highly interactive, with pupils invited to speak or perform in front of an audience of over 450! A special shout-out goes to Willow and Harvey for their confident use of the microphone, to Liam for his spirited performance as the ‘second witch’ from Macbeth, and to Ivy and Isla for their imaginative 2025-style rewrite of the famous balcony scene from Romeo & Juliet.

It was a day full of creativity, performance, and fresh perspectives on Shakespeare’s timeless works with excellent engagement and behaviour from all of our pupils, who were a credit to Sweyne Park.

Next week, the Caterlink menu will be ‘Week 1’.
